Historical hair jewels

I spent a lovely afternoon in the National Gallery of Ireland recently and found myself looking at how the women in these paintings decorated their hairstyles with strings of pearls and other decorative gems. These 16th to 18th Century ladies loved to weave pieces into their elaborate up-dos. Imagine being dressed in wedding style attire every day of your life?!

I especially love this 16th Century painting of Anne Boleyn who lived from 1507 to 1536 and was the second wife of King Henry VIII.
