Vintage Rhinestone headpiece

Tuesday, March 31, 2009

This striking headpiece is new to the Rangoli collection. The brooch style detail sits on a fine beaded alice-band. This piece is also available as a brooch comb and both designs are lovely in hair that is up or half-up.

Many variations are possible with different decorative detail to side of the headpiece.

Facinator hats and alternative headpieces

I have found that many clients including mother of the bride and bridal guests are looking for an alternative to a large hat or feathers. Many want to dress up their hair in an elegant and more understated way.

With this in mind, I have been designing a range of facinator hats and sculptural hairpins and combs that can be customised to match any outfit. These pieces are very versatile and can be worn in a number of different hairstyles. Some are attached to fine alice bands so that they sit securely and comfortably on the head.

Why not have a piece designed specially for you and enjoy being involved in the design process!

Bespoke Rangoli earrings

Monday, March 23, 2009

I recently had the opportunity to design a pair of earrings to go with an absolutely beautiful wedding dress. As you can imagine - I have a brilliant job, where I get to see pictures of gorgeous dresses every day. Amongst all these beautiful gowns, there is always one or two that really stand out and this dress appealed to me.

The designer Catherine Deane is Irish and the dress was purchased in Kalu in Naas. The fabric of the main part of the dress and sleeves are the softest silk organaza - transparent and so ethereal. The bodice had circular flower motifs which were like mini pom poms and the border trim was of embellished with tiny silver seed beads.

The dress is always the starting point in designing bridal accessories. Equally important is our own personal style. My client normally wears bold dramatic accessories so we looked at the elements in the dress and I felt it was important to feature a circular motif to match the decorative detail. I also suggested that cream pearls would complement the fabric colour. I introduced a little bit of Rhinestone for sparkle but kept the earring shape soft but defined. We were both really happy with the finished design!

Art of flying

Friday, March 20, 2009

Ever since I took a hot air balloon ride in Kapadokya, I have been fascinated with how it feels to fly high above the ground, gently floating through the air!

My previous post about the new Dior perfume reminded me of this amazing experience and how I would love to do it again somewhere else.

These pictures capture the mood quite well - The black and white image is by Melvin Sokolsky and the dress in the other image is by Galliano.

Christian Dior perfume

Thursday, March 19, 2009

Director Sofia Coppola is responsible for the new ad campaign for Christian Dior's new Miss Dior Chérie L'eau fragrance.

Most of us are familiar with Sofia's 'Marie Antoinette' movie - filled with dreamy dresses and outrageous gravity-defying hairstyles! This ad captures the romance of Paris in spring with model Maryna Linchuck being lifted high above the the Paris rooftops by a huge bunch of pastel coloured balloons. The soundtrack is by Brigitte Bardot and the beautiful dresses designed by Galliano.
