Colourful Sikh Wedding

Thursday, October 29, 2009

Nothing lifts the senses quite like colour and I have fallen in love with this Sikh wedding photographed by Jesse Leake.

In this culture, your knight arrives on a white horse to the sounds of jubilant music and cheers. Lindsey and Avi's guest's chose to wear brightly coloured saris and turbans too, making the photos jump off the page.

With a mixed-culture wedding, there are usually two separate celebrations....(time to bring that celebration to Ireland I think!) Lindsey's hennaed hands complement the simple flower in her hair and unite both cultures beautifully.

Over the coming posts I will be asking you for your opinions on lots of diverse topics so get your thinking caps on. Your feedback and ideas will inspire other readers and help me to cover topics that are of particular interest to you!

Floating flowers

Wednesday, October 28, 2009
This image of floating flowers really captured my imagination. We're used to see flowers in vases and expect them to be vertical. I love the idea of having an aerial view of flowers and seeing the beautiful patterns they create when placed side be side.

Perfect for your table centre-piece while allowing you to see your fellow dining partners across the table.

Romantic ribbons

Thursday, October 22, 2009

Half of the fun of choosing your dress is looking at e.n.d.l.e.s.s pictures of dreamy confections and imagining yourself wearing them. Dress shopping makes you realise the styles that suit you and the ones that just won't work!

So enjoy the initial browsing where any dress is possible - figure and budget aside:-)

Here's two that caught my eye for their wonderful use of ribbons -

The top dress is by by none other than Christian Lacroix. The second dress is by Claire Pettibone and is called Twilight.

Chic bridesmaids

Tuesday, October 20, 2009

Designing for bridesmaids is always fun and I like having a palette of different colours to inspire me. Even when the colours are muted or neutral, it's fun to design a piece to really complete the look. You can work within the neutral palette or bring in an accent colour that might be featured in the bouquets.

The bracelet above was made for a recent client for this gorgeous Watters and Watters bridesmaid dress. The bracelet is made from fine crochet in an antique silver colour to match the pewter coloured fabric. I incorporated lots of clear and silver toned Swarovski crystals for extra sparkle.

To finish the look, I designed an elegant pair of drop earrings. It can be nice to keep the neckline bare to really show off the lines of the dress.

Lucky lucky bridesmaid! View the Watters and Watters bridesmaids collection.

More colour ideas

Wednesday, October 14, 2009

Here's another example of pretty colour palettes - the image of the stamps was found on 100layercake.blogspot.com in an article about using vintage stamps for your wedding invitations.

I phoned An Post to enquire whether it is possible to buy or use vintage stamps and was told that due to the currency change to Euro, that pre-2002 stamps can no longer be used. What a shame!

Bridal colour themes

Tuesday, October 13, 2009

A wedding is a chance to surround yourself with your favourite colours. What other occasion do you get to tell a few friends what colour dress to wear to one of your parties? Even if you're wearing an ivory dress, you can wear blue shoes or carry a bouquet of rainbow colours...

Putting together a story-board is a great way of visualising a colour theme for your wedding. An online colour generator is a useful tool for doing this. Pick an image that you like for its colours and submit it to BigHugeLabs.com

I did this for the Jonas Unger image above and love the colour swatches and dreamy names it produces ...

Mark Shaw

A friend sent me a link to the photos of Mark Shaw - these 1950's images look like they could have been taken today.

Mark Shaw is best known for his photographs of Jacqueline and John F. Kennedy, which he shot originally for LIFE magazine and later as the Kennedys' "unofficial" family photographer.

Mark Shaw began working for LIFE in 1952. As a leading fashion photographer, he also worked for Harper's Bazaar, Mademoiselle and a host of other publications. He was one of the first photographers to use colour when shooting the runways and "backstage" at the couture shows.

Some of Mark Shaw's most beautiful work was shot for Vanity Fair's lingerie advertising campaign. The images above are from this series which was created over a ten-year period. Stunning!

It's all about the hair!

Wednesday, October 7, 2009

So, 'the' dress is KEY...and after you've picked that out, the next thought is how to whip your hair into some gorgeous style that will make you look like a slightly more glamorous version of your 'normal self' - Ok, most of us want to look like a super-glamorous version of our normal selves :-) And I'm noticing that lots of clients are not prepared to grow their tresses for several years just so they can have the perfect hairstyle. Why do that when there are so many options available now such as hair extensions and hairpieces?

Jen's wedding photo

Saturday, October 3, 2009

Thanks to Jennifer for sharing this great image from her recent wedding!

Jen looks radiant on her wedding day. I love her natural up-style and her Rangoli hairwire and matching pearl and rhinestone drop earrings really complete the look. What a pretty bouquet too.

The wedding was photographed by Kieran Galvin from Galvin Photography.
